“My Babies” - 11x14 Framed Original Watercolor Collage by Marcia Nickols
"We have so many kinds of woodpeckers in Door County that I always find more that I did not know about. They are all smaller than the Pileated woodpecker, who is huge. They visit our feeders daily and naturally peck on the trees too. The holes you see in trees that are sorta rectangle were made by them.
I made all the background paper from cotton cords, sheets or anything we had that had cotton in it. Other natural handmade papers were added to finish the design as well as found objects. I figured out how to paint watercolors on the paper by coating with pastel ground and gesso. It has been a fun experience to figure out how to make all this work."
